PROCEDURES FOR ISSUANCE OF NEW PASSPORT

The government of Tanzania has introduced machine readable passports (New Generation Passport) from March 24, 2005. Among other reasons, the aim of this decision is to control the forgery and our national passports. The process of replacement of old passports has to be complete inside six (6) months from the date of inauguration of the new passports.

Procedures for application of the new passports through Embassies are as follows:-

• All new passports will be issued at the Immigration Department Headquarters in Dar es Salaam and in Zanzibar.

• The application for a new passport should be submitted at the Embassy by the applicant him/herself. The Embassy has been delegated to process all applications from holders of the old authentic Tanzanian passports.

• The Embassy will then send the completed application forms, relevant documents and passport fee to the Immigration Headquarters for the issuance of new passports. The Immigration Headquarters will then send the new passports to the relevant applicants through the Embassy.

• Passport fee
  The application forms costs 10US$ each and the passport fee is 40US$. Therefore the total cost for a new passport is 50 US$. Applicants in Japan are required to pay in Japanese Yen, which is equivalent to 50 US$. Fee varies depending on the rate. It should be noted that the applicant would be required to re-pay for any replacement of the application form. So accuracy should be observed during the process of filling the forms.

• Application forms
  The application forms are available at the Chancery. You are advised to visit the Embassy Homepage to download the form, study and understand the contents and prepare all the necessary information. The original application form will be issued by the Passport Officer during the meeting with him/her.

The applicant will be required to sign the properly filled application form in presence of a Passport Officer using a special designated pen and his/her fingerprints will be taken

The applicant is required to submit 5 passport size photos with a light blue background. The recommended size is 4.5cm ~ 4.0 cm.

The applicant is also required to submit his/her previous passport for verification, together with copies of page 1 - 4, last page that shows the Dossier Number, the page with visa/permit and a copy of a his/her resident permit.

Other documents to be submitted are indicated on the application form. Please submit them if you didn't submit during the application of your previous passport.

The applicant will be allowed to retain his/her previous passport during the processing of the new passport. However, he/she will be asked to submit it to the Embassy through registered mail for cancellation when the new passport arrives. The Embassy will then send the new and the cancelled passport to the bearer.

5 centers have been located in Japan to facilitate the meeting between applicants and Passport Officer. The information about the centers and the schedule is indicated at gWhat's New" section. For those who live in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines and South Korea, this information will be communicated to you at appropriate time.

UTARATIBU WA UTOAJI WA PASIPOTI MPYA

Serikali ya Tanzania iliamua kutoa pasipoti mpya zinazosomeka kwa mashine(Machine readable passports), ambazo zilianza kutumika rasmi tarehe24/3/2005. Pamoja na mambo mengine, zoezi la kutoa pasipoti hizo linalenga katika kudhibiti pasipoti zetu. Serikali imetoa muda wa miezi sita (yaani hadi Septemba 23, 2005) kwa pasipoti zote za zamani kubadilishwa. Baada ya hapo pasipoti hizo hazitatambuliwa tena.

Ili kukidhi madhumuni ya kutoa pasipoti mpya, utaratibu ufuatao utatumika kwa wote watakaooomba pasipoti hizo kupitia Balozi zetu:

• Uandikaji wa pasipoti zote utafanywa na Makao Makuu ya Uhamiaji pamoja na Zanzibar.

• Balozi zitashughulikia na kuidhinisha maombi yote ya pasipoti hizo mpya kwa raia wa Tanzania waishio nje ya nchi na kisha kuyatuma Makao Makuu kwa Mkurugenzi wa Uhamiaji. Baada ya uhamiaji kuandika pasipoti, itazituma Ubalozini ili ziwasilishwe kwa wahusika.

• Ada ya pasipoti
  Fomu za maombi ya pasipoti zitalipiwa US$ 10 kila moja na pasipoti italipiwa US$ 40. Hivyo malipo yote ni US$ 50. Izingatiwe kwamba, iwapo mwombaji wa pasipoti atajaza vibaya, ataharibu au kuchafua fomu ya maombi, atalazimika kununua/kulipia fomu nyingine kwa US$ 10.

• Fomu za maombi
  Fomu za maombi zinapatikana Ubalozini. Mwombaji anashauriwa kutembelea tovuti ya Ubalozi ili kusoma maelezo ya fomu hiyo na kuandaa taarifa zote muhimu na vitu vinavyotakiwa kuwasilishwa wakati wa kuomba pasipoti mpya. Fomu halisi itajazwa wakati atakapoonana na Afisa wa Pasipoti.

• Mwombaji wa pasipoti akishajaza fomu ya maombi, ataweka sahihi yeye mwenyewe mbele ya afisa wa pasipoti/Ubalozi kwa kutumia kalamu maalumu. Aidha mwombaji huyo atachukuliwa alama za vidole na afisa wa pasipoti/Ubalozi.

• Picha:
  Mwombaji wa pasipoti anatakiwa kuwasilisha nakala tano(5) za picha ya pasipoti zenye rangi ya bluu bahari kwa nyuma(a light blue background). Picha hiyo iwe yenye urefu wa 4.5 sentimeta na upana wa 4.0 sentimeta(4.5~4.0 cm).

• Mwombaji atatakiwa kuambatanisha maombi yake na pasipoti aliyokuwa nayo kwa ajili ya kuithibitisha, pamoja na nakala za ukurasa wa 1 - 4, ukurasa wa mwisho wenye namba ya faili, ukurasa wenye visa au kibali cha kuishi mahali alipo (resident permit) pamoja na nakala ya gCertificate of Alien Registration" kwa wale waishio Japan.

• Hati nyingine zinazotakiwa kuambatanishwa na maombi ya pasipoti ni kama ilivyoorodheshwa katika fomu za maombi. Mwombaji anapaswa kuwasilisha hati hizo ikiwa hakuwa ameziwasilisha katika maombi ya pasipoti ya zamani.

• Mwombaji ataruhusiwa kubaki na pasipoti yake mpaka hapo pasipoti mpya itakapotumwa Ubalozini. Akishaarifiwa kuwasili kwa pasipoti yake, mwombaji ataituma pasipoti ya zamani kwa "Registered mail", ili iweze kufutwa na kisha kurudishwa kwake ikiambatanishwa na pasipoti mpya.

Kwa Watanzania walioko Japan, vituo 5 vimepangwa ili kuwawezesha kukutana na Afisa wa Pasipoti. Majina na ratiba ya Afisa huyo kuwasili kwenye vituo hivyo imeonyeshwa kwenye sehemu ya gWhat's New". Taarifa kuhusu mahali pa kuonana na Afisa huyo kwenye vituo vilivyotajwa itatolewa kwa njia ya gE-mail".
